Tips for your child's procedure...
Talking about or preparing for a procedure can be stressful and can induce anxiety in children, adolescents, and parents. With that in mind, we strive to make your experience a family-friendly and positive one. We provide a friendly, warm, and comforting environment.
We encourage a parent to be with their child throughout the procedure process as much as possible including when they wake in Recovery.
We invite you to call our facilities with questions or concerns before a procedure.
Preoperative instructions include:
Please Note: These instructions are for your child’s safety. Failure to comply may result in delay or cancellation of the procedure.

DO NOT allow your Child to EAT or DRINK after midnight before their procedure.

DO NOT GIVE candy, cough drops, breath mints or chewing gum to your child on the day of their procedure.

Your child may brush their teeth that morning but they must NOT swallow water, mouthwash, toothpaste, etc…

If your child takes any medications, supplements or herbal products, please ask your child’s health care providers about whether or not your child should take them.

Check in at the scheduled arrival time and location for your procedure.

You will meet Dr. Goode, the Anesthesiologist, Nurses and Endoscopy Staff who will answer any further questions and get consent for the procedure.

After the procedure, Parents are invited to join their children in the recovery area.

When sedation wears off, your child will drink and be given final discharge instructions.

Bring your child’s favorite toy, books or device for comfort.

Parents should try to eat a healthy breakfast and stay hydrated, but do so outside of your child’s sight and smell.

Speak with family and friends, who have experience with GI Procedures.
